Casey- Metallica "One"
Brian C- Linkin Park "What i've done"
Patrick- Rage Against the Machine -- I reserve all rights to pick a song.
Zak- Berklee college of music -- Home to Darfur
Nicole - The Last Goodnight - "Pictures of You"
Kayla - Megadeth " take no prisoners"
~~~the message of the song is saying Terminate the enemy leaving no man alive.
Take No PrisonersGot one chance, infiltrate them Get it right, terminate them The Panzers will permeate them Break their pride, denigrate them And their people, retrograde them Typhus, detriate them Epidemic, devastate them Take no prisoners, cremate them Burn!Going to war, give them hell D-Day, next stop Normandy Beginning of the end We know how to and sure as shit we'll win War is peace, sure man A retreat for the damned A playground for the demented A heaven for those who walk this world Bereft of heart and soul Love and war, they say all is fair Take his life but won't take his hair Your body has parts, your country spares By the way son, here's your wheelchair He once had to be all he could be Now he's nothing for no one, nowhere to see Funny thing, he's like you and me It's a funny thing, funny thing Tears streak his solemn stare Abandoned for wreckage, nobody cares No one knew what would happen there No one spoke, no one even dared Don't ask what you can do for your country Ask what your country can do for you
~~~ i personaly think that this song is not effective towards the public, yea the rest of the world may relate to what the song is saying but they dont follow what the lyrics say. the people just agree but dont follow through.
Andrea-cranberries "zombie"
This song is about the IRA bombing in Warrington, Cheshire in 1993 in Northern Ireland. It tells about two children, Jonathon Ball and Tim Parry that were killed. The IRA was determined to remove British troops from Ireland.
This song is good because it's talking about how two kids were robbed of their lives and they hear and see everything in their heads. It's a very sad song.
I think when celebrity or famous people talk about global issues, the audience that is listening will pay better attention to the words and message of their work. And people can relate to what the singer or person is saying from their own experience. Plus they put emotion and feelings into their songs to make it more realistic. Now a days teens like listening to music and watching t.v. and if they are listening and watching people they admire and like they are more likely to be affected by it.
Ashley-black eyed peas "where is the love"
~~~This song talks about all the things that happen in thw world that people do wrong. they are trying tosay that people should help out around the world and not just use what they have for them selves. We all should help take care of one another and be there for each other not matter what. Also people are killing each other due to what they believe and how they act. We should all just know that we only have one WORLD and its all we will ever have.
LYRICS
What's wrong with the world mama? People living like ain’t got no mamas I think the whole world's addicted to the drama Only attracted to the things that bring YOU trauma Overseas yeah we tryin’ to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’ In the USA the big CIA The Bloods and the Crips and the KKK But if you only have love for your own race Then you only leave space to discriminate And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin’ you're bound to get irate, yeah Madness is what you demonstrate And that's exactly how anger works and operates You gotta have love just to set it straight Take control of your mind and meditate Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all People killing people dying Children hurtin’ an’ ya’ hear them crying Can you practice what you preach? An’ would you turn the other cheek? Father Father Father help us Send some guidance from above Cause people got me got me questioning Where is the love? It just ain't the same Always have changed
New days are strange is the world the insane? If love and peace so strong Why are there pieces of love that don't belong Nations dropping bombs Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones With ongoing suffering as the youth die young So ask yourself, Is the loving really Gone? So I can ask myself, Really what is going wrong? With this world that we living in People keep on giving in Makin’ wrong decisions only visions of them livin’ And not respecting each other Denying thy brother The wars' going on but the reasons' undercover The truth is kept secret Swept under the rug If you never know truth Then you never know love Where's the love y'all? C’mon (I don't know) Where's the truth y'all? C’mon (I don't know) Where's the love y'all? People killing people dying Children hurtin’ an’ ya’ hear them crying Can YOU practice what you preach? An’ would you turn the other cheek?Father Father Father help us
Send some guidance from above Cause people got me got me questioning Where is the love? I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder As I'm getting older y'all people gets colder Most of us only care about money makin’ Selfishness got us followin’ the wrong direction Wrong information always shown by the media Negative images is the main criteria Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria Kids wanna’ act like what the see in the cinemas y’all Whatever happened to the values of humanity-ah Whatever happened to the fairness and equality-ah Instead of spreading love, we're spreading animosity-ah Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling under That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling down It's no wonder why sometimes I'm feeling under I gotta keep my faith alive, until love is found ask yourself Where is the love? sing with me yo one world one world we only got one world one world dats all we got one world one world and sometihng wrong with yeah somethings wrong with yeah somethings wrong with the world yeah we only got one world one world at all we got one world one world
~~~I dont believe that what people sing about really really has an effect on what others think. Notice that we are still doing the same things as we always have and nothing has change and them their selves aren't always helpping like they say in their lyrics.
Candice- "Waiting on the World to Change"-by John Mayor
Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything is going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Its hard to be persistant
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would've never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
When you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cuz when they own the information ooohhh,
They can bend it all they want
So while we're waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
It's not that we don't care
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We're still waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Know we keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting (waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change.
~I think this song is really good because he's not really singing or focusing on one global issue, it's any issue that someone thinks about when they listen to this song. When I hear this song I think about the war in Iraq and how people would really love "to bring their loved ones home from war" like the song says.
Well, I kind of do think it is effective when celebrities take on politics because their fans who love them so much will take their side, most likely. Also, they will vote for the person that they are representing because of some of the statements or causes thay they are willing to help or enforce.
Marvin Gaye's " What's going On"
fighting for something you believe in with harm to another is never the solution.
"We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can concquer hate
you know we've got to find a way
To bring some loving here today"
Artist create music to send a message to the listeners. Listening to music and understanding the meaning of these lyrics gives the listeners a thought process that relates to what the artist is trying to teach. (make the listener understand what is being said and relating to it)

The Last Goodnight - "Pictures of You"
"...This is the war that's never won
This is the soldier and his gun
This is the mother waiting by the phone, praying for her son..."
This band is conveing their frustration and the seemingly never ending war. They simpathize with the hardships that the soldiers go through and the families that are worried about them. I do think that this song is effective, it makes you think about the families with loved ones out fighting.

Brian Cress - Linkin Park "What i've done"
Here is the video, as requested. Sorry It took so long to get on.
"In this farewell
There's No blood
Theres no alibi
Cause' I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies
So let mercy come
And wash away
What i've done
I'll face myself
To cross out, what i've become
Erase myself
And let go of what i've done
Put to rest, what you thoght of me
while I clean this slate
With the hands, of uncertanty
So let mercy come
And wash away
What i've done
I'll face myself
To cross out, what i've become
Erase myself
And let go of what i've done
For what i've done
I start again
and whatever pain may come
today this ends
I'm forgiving...
What i've done
I'll face myself
to cross out, what i've become
erase myself
and let go of what i've done
What I've Done
Forgiving what I've done"
Message: I believe Linkin Park is trying to get accross the message to let go everything terribly horrible in the past and to forgive and forget.
-I believe that celeberties have zero effect when they take stance in political issues. Sure, thier famous and raise lots of money, but when it comes down to actual political issues, nobody listens to them.
MacKenzie------White Lion----When the children cry
'Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killin' man but no one knows just why.
What have we become
just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again.
When the children cry
let them know we tried
'Cause when the the children sing
then the new world begins.
Little child
you must show the way
To a better day for all the young.
'Cause you were born for the world to see
This song is about how there are so many things going on in the world. There is all kinds of killings and destruction. This song is about hope. It is about the new generations rebuilding and making things better for everyone in the future.
